“CELTIC MUSIC” PROJECT

A- Listen to this video and translate the lyrics.

All souls night - Loreena McKennitt

All souls night

Hogueras salpican las colinas ondulantes
figuras bailan alrededor

D- Who is Pamela Wyn Shannon? (2 or 3 lines are enough).
E- Where does she come from?

F- In your own words, try to express the feeling you get listening to this music (2 or 3 lines are enough).

Pamela Wyn Shannon - Cold Blows The Wind

I feel like i´m in a little old village in the middle of a mountain, with a lot of trees, flowers and a lake. When i listen to this music i feel relaxed because of the melody and I also feel happy.I feel like i´m laying in a long field of grass looking to the sky and listening to a little river.

G- Do some research about the poem The Unquiet Grave which this song is based on, and answer these questions: what is the main topic of the song? Do you like the story? Why or why not?
This poem is among the most beautiful "Child" ballads.
Constructed around a conversation between a young man and the ghost of his beloved.
https://media.istockphoto.com/vectors/tomb-grave-stone-sketch-icon-vector-id606710076The first two stanzas are spoken by the young man, at first, it seems he directly addresses the dead woman.

At first, the woman's death seems recent. But the pledged period of mourning ("a twelvemonth and a day") passes between stanzas two and three.
The belief that graves become "unquiet", and the restless ghosts enact an angry or violent haunting because excessive grief prevents their leaving the earth, is an ancient one, far older than the poem.
I don't like much this poem , not because the lyrics, it is only that I prefer happy stories about  fairies and  things like that , I don't like dead people and graves...etc.

H- Where do they (Gwendal) come from?

Gwendal is a Breton and Celtic music instrumental group formed in 1972
From the first moment you can see that this group has a great multiplicity of influences, from traditional Irish music , to rock, jazz ...etc
The first album was published in 1974 with the name of "Irish Jig".
I- Open your mind and let your imagination fly free!! : what does this music (Gwendal) transmit to you? (3 or 4 lines are enough).

It transmit happiness and energy. When i listen to it I feel like i am watching a lot of irish  dancers dancing on a town's square an there's a lot of musicians playing for them. the landscape that I imagine is a field full of flowers an people dancing around.

F- This is the song we are playing together (O Son do Ar).
